We would like to introduce you to our school. Northeast School has been a part of the Vernon community since 1954. A neighborhood school, we serve approximately 300 students. Many of our students are the second and third generation of their families to attend Northeast School. Our numbers, however, also include students whose frequent moves make them academically vulnerable. Our staff of 48 focuses on high expectations, individual validation, and the creation of community. Our curriculum is rigorous, challenging, and creative. Our students work hard, play hard, and feel they belong. Our philosophy, practice, and performance has earned us a Blue Ribbon from both the Connecticut Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education. We teach our children that they can make a difference to themselves and their community by being effective, responsible individuals.

Mission Statement
Please note that the teachers at Northeast School have developed a "Mission Statement" which is on display in the foyer of our school. It is a promise for all to see, and it will be this promise which will form the basis for all decisions making at Northeast School.

We the staff of Northeast School, believing that our children are our most precious resource, hereby promise to:
  • Provide an environment that is safe, suppportive, and motivating.
  • Affirm individuality and nurture the feeling of self-worth and self-esteem within each child.
  • Develop our children as learners of basic skills and as problen-solvers and thinkers.
  • Foster responsibility, citizenship, and a meaningful sense of comminity.
  • Communicate with and encourage parents to actively participate in their child's education.
Children will become effective, responsible individuals when they believe in themselves and learn to commit themselves to what they believe. They must be taught that they can make a difference to themselves and to their community.
We believe that lofty goals should lead to exceptional programs. Please click on the links below to learn how Northeast matches its deeds to its words.
