Text Box: GARDEN FUN

News from the Secretary’s Desk…Are you moving over the summer out of CRS’s district?  Please stop by the office to complete a record release for your child.  This gives us permission to withdraw your child and forward his/her records to their new school.                                                             Rocky Banking with Rockville Bank will end on June 6th.   Bankbooks will be returned by Monday, June 9, 2008.

Working out can be fun any season, if everyone pitches in.  Together, wash the car, shovel snow, water flowers, or rake leaves.  You can give children tasks like using a dustpan and brush to sweep the front steps, or pulling weeds from sidewalk cracks.

Consider a bigger project such as planting a garden.  Dig a plot and let everyone pick a vegetable (beans, carrots, zucchini) to grow.  Or buy inexpensive clay pots and seeds, and have each person be responsible for nurturing an herb (parsley, mint, thyme).  Find healthy recipes, and cook together using your fresh veggies and herbs.

Text Box: Daily workout time

Stretch, lift, and move!  Improve everyone’s flexibility, endurance, and strength with a 15-minute family exercise period each day.

Begin with a warm-up.  Example: Stretch your arms above your head for 10 seconds.  Then, bend and touch your toes for 10 seconds.

Next, add aerobics.  Example: Do 10 jumping jacks and 10 squats.  Jog in place for 3 minutes.

Finally, focus on strength.  Example: Do two sets each of 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, and 10 lifts per leg.                                     To keep everyone motivated, make a chart.  Check off each time the whole family participates.  When you log five days in a row, treat yourselves to a movie night at home or a picnic in the park.
